Martin KOCOUREK (Czech Republic), “Heart”, metal, 50 cm, 2007
Martin KOCOUREK graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and he focuses on sculpture. He mainly works with metal combined with wood, creating metaphorical objects of strong emotional pathos. Kocourek’s objects and installations are simple, urgent and expressive, lacking any hidden meanings. By selecting rough, unprocessed metals without finish as well as scrap materials, into which he instills a strong message, Kocourek attacks his viewers and is almost able to move them to tears. His works are personal, imbued with lively experience, and unbelievably authentic. In our time full of irony, we feel that Kocourek attempts to return to subjects with deep artistic message. The artist widely exhibits both in the Czech Republic and abroad, and was also present at the Italian Arte Fiera Bologna 2009.

The Festival of the Centennial Nations’ Capitals takes place between 10-17 September in Bucharest. A one of a kind festival in which theatre, poetry, music, exhibitions and conferences will bring us all together in a wonderful celebration, FCNC 2018!
